LG G3 got it's fame from being the first smartphone with an quad HD (1440p) display.
Although this is a great looking phone it has some software issues, like all the phones out there. The problems the LG G3 has are easy to fix, and solutions for most of them are accessible to everyone.
If you plan to buy this smartphone you should take a look first at the generic problems that it has, so read carefully the problems below.

Problem 1: Wi-Fi dropping or not connecting

This problem is reported by many users, their wi-fi is not connecting at all or if it connects, after some amount of time the connection is dropped for no reason. This wi-fi problem is a common one for a G3 and there are some solutions for it:

Fixes for Wi-Fi dropps

  • try restarting your router/modem (it may not be G3's fault)
  • turn off your phone, take out the battery and reboot it
  • update your router firmwire to the latest version
  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and long press on the current connection than choose "Forget network". Now reconnect to your network.
  • Check the "Battery Saver" setting, the Wi-Fi may be configured to switch off to increase the battery life.
  • In some cases Bluetooth interferes with Wi-Fi, so make sure you are not using both at the same time.
  • Go into your router setting, and choose a different Wi-Fi channel (check your router's manual if you don't know how to do this)
  • If your Wi-Fi signal is dropped when the screen is off you have to go to "Advanced Wi-Fi" setting and turn on "Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off" (this will decrease your battery life)
  • Another potential fix for Wi-Fi problems is turning of "Google auto scan" in Advanced Wi-Fi settings.
  • Go to your router setting and change the wifi band from Auto or 5Ghz to 2.4Ghz. The 2.4Ghz band has an lower transfer speed but is more stable and compatible with most of the smartphones.

Problem 2: Poor Battery life

Altough the LG G3 has and big battery of  3,000 mAh, with plenty of juice for an phone, it also has and big 5.5-inch display which is the main place where the battery charge goes. Many users complain about problems with battery life with their G3, others are satisfied after applying some tricks to increase their battery life.

Fixes for LG G3's poor battery life

  • Go to Settings > Battery and turn on the Battery saver option. You will find many options there, and many things you can turn off. This will drastically increase your G3's battery life.
  • Make sure your battery is not malfunction, try to find another battery and test if the problem persist, if not you should buy a new battery.
  • If your G3 is brand new, give it a few full charges cycles and your battery life will most likely improve, after adjusting to your style of using the phone.
  • In some cases an app is responsible for the battery drain. You can check which apps are using the most power by going to "Settings > General > Battery > Battery use". Alternatively you can install an battery monitor app, like Better Battery Stats, to get more detailed info on which apps are draining your battery.
  • Try decreasing the Brightness of the display, or put it on Auto settings. High brightness levels consumes a lot of the battery juice.
  • Some times the SD Card may be the problem, it gets corrupted and it will drain a lot of your battery. Try to format your SD card in the "Storage" settings, if it doesn't work you can take it out and format it on your laptop or pc.

Problem 3: Camera crash while recording a video

Many people reported that the camera app is frequently crashing when they record videos. The camera app either closes with no error or it crashes saying "camera app stopped". This is an common bug in LG G3 phones and some potential fixes exist, like:

Fixes for camera crash when making a video

  • Clear the cache and data for the camera app. Go to Settings > Genera > Apps and find the camera app, then tap the buttons marked "Clear cache" and "Clear data".
  • This may be an known bug by the developers at LG, so make sure that you have the latest official version of android installed.
  • If the problem is not solved with the solution above, only thing left is to do a Factory Reset. Make sure you back-up all your important data and contacts, because this will erase everything on your G3.
  • Alternatively you can try another camera app, you will find plenty choices on Google Play.

Problem 4: Phone Shuts Down randomly

The phone turns off by itself, without any warnings and with an full battery. Most of the people with this issue will take the LG G3 out of their pocket and notice that it is turned off. See the fixes below to learn how to solve this problem:

Fixes for G3 shuting down randomly

  • This is a know problem with older android versions of LG G3, so check for firmwire updates and install any android update, if you haven't done it already.
  • On some of the LG G3's the battery tends to move on shocks causing the phone to shut down. Fit the battery firmly with a piece of paper to make sure it doesn't move.
  • If the problem still persists you will have to do a "Factory Reset". Back-up your data first then go to  Settings – General – Backup and Reset – Factory Data Reset – Reset Phone – Erase Everything to perform an Factory Reset.

Problem 5: LG G3 is getting hot/overheats

Many users reported that their LG G3 is getting extremely hot when they are playing games, watching videos for a long time or using many apps at once. Most of the smartphones have this problem and there are a few tricks to overcome the overheating of the LG G3.

Fixes for LG G3 overheating

  • Close/Kill the apps that you are not using (they keep running in the background). Do this only what you do heavy task with the processor, like playing 3D games.
  • The overheating is common on high resolution display, like the one the G3 has. Using the phone with maximum brightness for a long time will definitely make it warm up, so lower the brightness of the G3 when you use it for a long time.
  • If the phone gets extremely hot for no reason, reboot it and it may fix it. Some apps have bugs and may remain open and use the CPU even if you don't use them.
  • If you have a protective case for your LG G3, consider to remove it when you do intensive or long stuff with your phone. The case will make the heat disperse slower, and your G3 will not cool down efficiently.

Problem 6: Laggy or slow interface animations

Some times the G3 feels laggy when browsing trough the menus, starting applications, scrolling trough things or opening recent apps. The LG UI is pretty heavy and with those many thing installed the phone will get a bit slow sometimes, but there are a few solutions to prevent this:

Fixes for LG G3 slow/lag interface

  • You can adjust the speed of the animations or turn them completly off, but first you have to enable developer settings. Go to Settings > About phone > Software information than tap on Build number 7 times. Go back to Settings and you will see the Developer options next to About phone. Tap it and look for Windows animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale. Try to set the to 0.5 to double the animations speed or turn them off completely.
  • Sometimes the culprit for this problem is an rough app. To easily test this you can boot into Safe Mode. Hold the Power Button until the menu appears, than tap an hold "Power Off" until the option "Reboot to safe mode" appears. Now only the system apps are loaded, if the lag is gone this will tell you that an app is causing the slowdowns. Finding the one can be time consuming, because you will have to remove each app, one by one, until you find the bad one.
  • Having to many apps installed on your LG G3 will cause lag... Make a clean-up and delete the apps you don't need or use.
  • Alternatively you can root your G3 and install a custom rom that is lightweight and heavily optimized compared to the stock android.
